Embedded Linux: We’ve been using Linux in embedded devices since the days when you had to build your own cross-compiler and fit firmware into devices with tiny NOR flash chips. We have continued with it into the modern era where it usually makes more sense to use Yocto or even a pre-built distribution. Kishu's founder has experience building and fielding millions of devices for companies in the industrial, utility, and consumer space, so we know the issues and tradeoffs that need to be considered when building such systems. We can help you either build one from the ground up or optimize one that you already have.
Microcontrollers and RTOS: We’ve worked with all of the standard stuff (integrating i2c, SPI, UART and analog components), but also microcontroller firmware with a wireless communications component and an RTOS. We were involved in the Zephyr Project early-on and have continued to utilize it as it progressed into a first-class RTOS choice. Migrating a product from “bare metal” or a lightweight OS like FreeRTOS to a full-featured RTOS like Zephyr is something that we excel at. We also have experience with asynchronous multiprocessing and with deep-sleep for low-power devices.
Wireless protocols and drivers: We’ve designed and shipped millinos of devices that use WiFi, BLE, 802.15.4/Thread, RFID, NFC, as well as a few of the more obscure ones. We have decades of experience addressing the unique software challenges that arise when using wireless devices in unpredictable physical environments.
Bulletproof over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates: We’ve designed and implemented the OTA component (both device and server side) for products that pushed firmware updates to hundreds of thousands, or even millinos of units in the field. We understand the unique challenges in designing, testing, and deploying updates that are secure and reliable in environments where any possibility of leaving a device “stranded” is simply not an option.
Provisioning headless wireless network devices: Configuring device credentials that are needed to join a wireless network (e.g. SSID & PSK for WiFi) as well as certificates and keys for cloud services is always a challenge. We have designed and implemented out-of-band (BLE using a iOS/Android phone app) provisioning for many consumer devices. We’ve also designed and implemented NFC based (i.e. "tap the phone") provisioning that may be a better fit for large-scale provisioning.
AI and machine learning for small devices: As an early adopter of the TensorFlow (predecessor to LiteRT) framework we understand the how to train ML models and integrate them into resource constrained devices and how to effectively partition device-side edge ML to work with larger models in the cloud.
